~ EWOB and more ~
Howdy folks, Lately we’ve only met in pubs, between the booze and the loud music. This, by the way, is a very good thing because it means we get to play a lot!
But let us take the time to sit down and share some news with y’all. Maybe the biggest news this year is that The OSC is gonna preform at The International World of Bluegrass, EWOB in Voorthuizen (NL). The Scallywags will be climbing the stage on May 19th at 2:00PM. Come and see us!
Later on we will be heading North to the Folk veur Volk festival in Oud Aalden, Drenthe (NL). Let’s hope the sun will shine over the festival area on June 30th.
In between festivals and pubs the OSC will support Casco Songs with the recordings of his new album OER. We’ll keep you informed!
In the meantime you can check our tourdates, see if we’re playing at your neighbourhood.
See y’all and don’t forget, If the wife ain’t dead at the end of the song it ain’t bluegrass!
~ Dutch Country Music Awards ~
The song ‘Not my fault’ from our first album ‘Better Days’ is nominated by the Dutch Country Music Awards www.dcma.nl in the category best country song of 2010. The Gala award will be on September 11th 2011 in Oss. We’ll be there!
You can listen to the song on our homepage!
~ One minute of fame ~
Sunday may 15th the Scallywag's went to Buren (Orange City) to play our song Not my Fault in exactly 1 minute and 4 seconds. It was recorded by the local TV, omroep Gelderland to promote our show on may 22th in Zelhem. Thursday the 19th of may from 18:00 hours our One minute of fame will be broadcast!
~ Volunteers of Ona ~
Last summer they had an open air play in a little town called Klein Dochteren. The play was a great success and when the last actor had left the stage they had a look in their wallet. There was some money left so they decided to throw a big party for al the volunteers of Ona.
This is how we ended up playing our old time music in a chicken barn. The chickens were long gone but the smell was still there. After a while we couldn’t tell a good chicken fart from a glass of beer.
The Roosters were gathering round the bar while the hens were more interested in our bass player Dixie then in our music. But those roosters used their ears all right and after our first set they were hollering for ‘check one’ and ‘jailer bring me water’. One rooster even brought Handy Sandy a glass of water while he was singing the song for the second time. During the break some kid asked me if we’re gonna play some music he could recognize. “Well what where you thinking about kid?” In my mind I hoped he would not answer ‘Country Roads’ and he didn’t. But something like “Cotton-Eyed Joe would be nice”: He said. “Great” I said ”you know Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys!” The kid looked at me as if I came from another planet.
As usual the crowd yelled for more by the time we were done. But like my grandfather always said: ‘Never disappoint a drunk crowd’ so we gathered round the bar and played some real acoustic stuff. Now we were really done and the DJ took over.
The roosters were to drunk to walk to the peeing wagon and ended up peeing with the door handle in one hand and….well you can guess what’s in the other hand- while the hens all thought that they were Tina Turner. Bye Bye volunteers of Ona, we had a great time in the Chicken barn.
~ Near the German border ~
Just one week after our adventure in Horst we had to play in a town called Dinxperlo near the German border.
How we ended up there is a long story but I can tell you it was thanks to the drummer of Holland’s first and best dialect Rock band.
The people who were throwing the party had no partically reason to party and when we did asked them why they we’re throwing a party the answered “well because life is good to us”.
Hell yeah, that’s a pretty good reason to throw a party.
With just two mics and one amplifier we entertained them folks.
Old time music was filling the room and mixed well with all the liquor and food.
There even was a ‘Fraulein’ just like the one Don Helms sang about in 1957.
Later on somebody brought in the accordion and Sandy and Hank played along with some very old Dutch Folksongs.
By the time we were done and packed our stuff into the van the Fraulein was dancing in the living room and there was some serious clogging going on.
Yeah, we had a good time, hope the neighbors had a good time to?
~ Blackpowder and Old Time Music ~
It was on a sunny Saturday as we headed south. On our way to Horst.
We heard that there where some gunshootin' blackpowderlovin' Cowboys and Cowgirls who had to be entertained. In exchange for our music they would let us live.
We played in every corner of the campsite and we played at the shooting-range. We even played while the other band was doing the same, just to stay alive.
Well it worked out all right and we even had time to drink a beer with these folks and pick some guitar with some of them.
After having a very cold shower and peeing on our cowboy boots while shitting in the cornfield on Sunday morning we had to go up on stage. Just in time to play our old time music with our back 2 feet from the shooting-range. Our pants were shaking round our legs but still we sounded great.
You see folks, life isn't always easy while traveling on the road but we've learned a valuable lesson over there:
Cowgirls come from Venus - Cowboys come from Bars
